Hi friends - I'm Kolby. An adventure-seeking, romance-loving, vintage camera collecting, world traveling dog mama and documenter of epic love stories.

meet your photographer

Documenting love stories, traveling the world, and romanticizing all aspects of life. To say I'm grateful for this work is an understatement. Getting to capture special moments for my clients and allowing them to be cherished for decades brings me more fulfillment and joy than I can possibly express. I view your love story as a unique and magnificent work of art, and that's exactly how I want to document it for you.

I've invested so much of life into studying humans, from getting a degree in psychology, to observing people in cities all over the world, and connecting with so many incredible people throughout my photography career. I'm a natural observer, and I truly want to know what makes you who you are - what makes you smile, laugh, cry, tick. This aspect of my personality a huge part of the way that I approach working with my clients - getting to know you for who you are so that I can deliver photographs that show you off - not stiff, over posed, boring photos.

Photography has been an outlet of expression for me since I was 13 years old (I'm 32 now), playing with film cameras and documenting daily life wherever I went. I soon realized how much I cherished those photographs, those images that I could look back on forever to remind me of a moment passed.

I started my career as a band and music event photographer, traveling all over the West Coast and even to Costa Rica documenting music festivals. Soon after, around 2013, I started shooting boudoir photography and for the last 12 years I have been photographing women, allowing them to express themselves through emotive imagery that builds self confidence and love.

I have always strived to create images that make you feel something, and this has stuck with me into my career as a wedding photographer. My experience in boudoir has given me an expertise in getting my clients to feel comfortable in front of the camera, which is something that has been so important to each one of my wedding clients. But there is just something about a love story - the rawness, the passion, the quirks, the inside jokes.. nothing really has ever compared to the feeling I get when I document a love story. I love humans for exactly who they are, and that's exactly how I want you to show up. This is why I take the time to truly get to know you and understand your connection with each other - to create comfortable safe space that results in photographs that truly look like you. With intentional, meaningful photographs, I am able to preserve the most precious moments for you through work that truly comes from the heart. To give you the opportunity to relive the emotions you felt in those moments for years to come.

My approach to photography is a combination of documentary style and editorial - think photojournalism meets Vogue magazine. I capture all those tear-jerking candid moments but also use my creative eye and direction to produce beautiful, epic, dreamy portraits of you and your love! When you work with me, you'll never have to worry about awkward poses. You're going to feel comfortable being your truest self, and your photos will feel like YOU.

For most weddings I shoot both analogue and digital, using both 35mm and medium format film to blend those timeless, nostalgic photographs into your digital gallery for a well rounded, emotive telling of your day. Film for me is where my love for photography started, and I have found the authentic feeling you get from a film photograph simply cannot be fully matched by digital. My digital photos are always influenced by film, and you will see that they complement each other well throughout your gallery.

Our relationship means a whole lot to me. Each love story is completely unique, and I truly want to get to know the two of you - how you met, what you love, what makes you laugh, cry, and squirm with excitement. Knowing you helps me to produce photographs that represent you at your core. When you choose to work with me, I am completely invested in you and your story. You'll have me in your corner throughout the planning process, providing guides, tips, and as many creative planning calls as you'd like.

For the majority of your day, I take a documentary approach. This means that I observe and photograph moments exactly as they unfold, telling a truthful, authentic story. Weddings are full of so many complex human emotions that deserve to be documented in their rawest form. Think your dad wiping away tears that you might not have seen for decades, or your grandmother boogying it up on the dance floor. Intimate, small glances between you and your lover throughout the day. There are, however, certain aspects of the day in which an editorial approach and creative direction can help craft the narrative. For most of my couples, this includes carefully crafted detail photos, and minor direction during the romantic portraits.

"We had Kolby take our maternity pictures almost a year ago and it was such a positive experience that we went to her again for our first photoshoot as a family. She made the session feel so natural and effortless that that feeling stuck with us and we were excited to have her capture more memories for us. Kolby made sure we were on the same page about what our vision was before the shoot and she delivered! We hope we can continue working with her the next time we need photos done."
